Mini Olympians

Minimum requirements: Be comfortable in deep water & be able to swim on their front and or back for 25 metres

The Mini Olympians program is designated to introduce swimming to children age 8 yrs and under. New participants are children who love the water, eager to learn, and would like to be introduced to the competitive side of swimming.

In Mini Olympians, swimmers will be introduced to all four strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle). This will include other skills such as; streamline, push offs, beginner turns.The program will also teach children sport skills such as listening to instructions, sportsmanship, & perseverance through hard work. Each child progresses through the program of stroke instruction, correction, and evaluation at his/her own rate. The practice schedule permits participants to continue with other community, school, and home activities.

Children who successfully complete this can move up to Olympic Way.

Olympic Way

Minimum Requirements: Be comfortable in deep water & be able to swim on front and back for 25m (1 Length of Pool). They should also be aware of what the four strokes are.

Olympic Way is designed to help swimmers continue their journey past Mini Olympians. They will be increasing their training and strengthening the skills for all four strokes. They will learn more race skills and become aware of the art of racing. Swimmers should be confident swimming in water of all depths and be willing to listen and learn! It is important to note, swim meets will be introduced through Novice meets during the year. The attendance to these will be beneficial to the progress and confidence building of your swimmer!

Once a swimmer is able to swim under 4 minutes for a 200 IM, they can be considered for Regional!

Abbotsford : Stroke Improvement & Conditioning - MRC

Stroke Improvement and Conditioning

Minimum Requirements: Be comfortable in all depths of water. Swimmers should be able to swim 50m continuously in freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, and should have some experience with butterfly, including dolphin kick and simultaneous arm recovery.

In SIC, swimmers will continue their journey in swimming with focus on improve each stroke to the best of their capabilities.

Goals of SIC include attaining Regional time standards. Depending on their age, they may be eligible to tryout for Regional or Senior. Swimmers will be encouraged to attend meets.

Initial Cost 2x per week: $170/month + Swim BC Membership Fee + Family Membership Fee
Initial Cost 3x per week: $190/month + Swim BC Membership Fee + Family Membership Fee

Regional - MRC

Abbotsford : Regional - MRC

Regional

Joining this Group will be at based on swimming experience and will be at the Coaches Discretion

Regional is the start to the big benchmarks in swimming. Here they will learn the importance of training and expectations of competitive swimming.

This group is intended to have continued emphasis on stroke development for all events. Swimmers will also be taught proper training techniques for aerobic and anaerobic work, as well as a dryland and flexibility program. Swim meet and practice attendance is required. This particular group is a transition from Olympic Way Group to Provincial Group. Dryland and flexibility training are also introduced.

Initial Cost: $280/month + Swim BC Membership Fee + Family Membership Fee
