Group Description
The National 8 group is for swimmers who are aiming to compete at the highest levels of the sport, including National and international competitions. These programs provide a highly disciplined training environment with a focus on individualized coaching, advanced training techniques, and sports science. Coaches work closely with athletes to fine-tune all aspects of performance, including physical conditioning, technical skills, tactical awareness, and mental preparation, guiding them towards elite competitive success.
Main Objectives
- Implement advanced training methodologies for peak athletic conditioning and swimming efficiency.
- Refine all aspects of competitive performance, including starts, turns, and finishes.
- Develop sophisticated race strategies and tactical awareness for diverse events.
- Foster mental resilience, focus, and independent problem-solving in a demanding training environment.
- Achieve qualifying standards for National and potentially international competitions.
Criteria
- Target Age: 14 and Older as of March 15th (While the target age provides general guidance, younger swimmers may be considered to accommodate individual differences in growth, development, and experience.)
- Ability: Swimmers will be evaluated based on their top three Rudolph Point scoring swims. (Rudolph Points are a performance-based metric used to assess a swimmer's ability across various events. Please consult your coach or the Member Handbook for detailed information on Rudolph Points.)
- Commitment: Sustained Advanced Commitment (Advanced Commitment Rubric) Score: 33+. Swimmers are expected to demonstrate consistent attendance, a dedicated approach to training, and a strong commitment to all aspects of the competitive program.
Equipment
For the pool sessions, swimmers need to bring their own goggles, swimwear, kickboard, pull buoy, band, paddles, fins, and snorkel. For activation and dryland sessions, swimmers are required to have appropriate dryland clothing, running shoes, skipping rope, and theraband. Additional equipment may be required. Equipment specifications will be distributed by the coach after registration.
Practice Schedule
The detailed practice schedule will be distributed to the swimmers after registration. The comprehensive program will include activation, swimming, dryland, and classroom sessions.
Competition
Swimmers in the National 8 group are expected to regularly participate in Swim BC sanctioned competitions, with a primary focus on achieving and maintaining qualifying standards for National Championships (e.g., Canadian Junior & Senior Championships, Olympic & Paralympic Trials). Participation in designated top-tier Invitational meets will be crucial for competitive preparation and experience. This group aims for peak performance and significant results at the highest levels of Canadian swimming.
Parental Commitment
At the National level, it is expected that at least one parent from the family becomes qualified as a Level 3 official. Active parental involvement in club volunteer roles and officiating is highly encouraged to support our elite competitive programs.
Registration
Registration for National 8 is year-long (September through July).
